Operating Principle:
A precise volume of whole blood is dispensed on to the window of a PTS Test Strip that has already been inserted into the analyser. As the blood passes through a series of membranes red cells and non plasma components are filtered out. Ultimately the final membrane layer reacts with the Plasma to produce a precise colour change. The analyser measures the colour and compares to lot-specific calibration information contained in the MEMo Chip. The result is then displayed on a digital screen and stored together with date and time for later recall.
PTS Test Strips provide a simple stable and easy to use format. They use the same chemical reactions used in clinical laboratory equipment.
Identical to the systems used (sometimes many times) every day by people suffering from diabetes. The CardioChek system is simple, easy and very quick to use. Using your CardioChek ST Analyser is a simple (and painless!) process that takes maybe 2 minutes Step 1. Prick your finger with a lancet. This is automatic and painless! Step 2. Collect a blood droplet with the capillary tube. Step 3 Apply blood droplet to the test strip Step 4. Read the results. Types of Cholesterol. The importance of cholesterol to our overall health is very well publicised throughout the UK not just via our newspapers and television programmes but by many of the advertisements we read and listen to every day.
High cholesterol levels can be bad news. Our bodies need the right amount and the right type of cholesterol to remain healthy.
Cholesterol is carried through the blood by substances called High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) and Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL). HDL carries the cholesterol away from the heart and blood vessels thus helping to prevent the arteries from becoming clogged and narrowing. HDL is therefore regarded as "good" cholesterol.
LDL ("bad" cholesterol) is more likely to cause a build up on artery walls. If this occurs the build up of cholesterol in the coranary arteries can restrict the blood flow into the heart - the highest cause of heart disease in the Western World.
Symptoms of High Cholesterol. br> Because there are no real symptoms it is very difficult to know if your cholesterol levels are high without first doing a simple blood test. Until now this has only been possible through your GP or local hospital. With the development of sophisticated analysers some pharmacies have introduced an "in store" service but this is expensive and designed for their "health" as much as for yours!
With the introduction of the CardioChek ST Analyser this blood test can now be done in the comfort and convenience of your own home. It is simple, affordable and extremely accurate. With the Cardiochek ST you can measure "total" cholesterol, the most important indicator, the level of HDL (good cholesterol), Triglycerides and by calculation the level of LDL (bad cholesterol). In addition you can measure Glucose and Keytones.
The following indications may suggest the possibility that the fat levels in your blood are high:
- Small yellow lumps on the eyelids and tendons of the hands and knees. - A white ring appearing on the cornea of the eye. - If you suffer from diabetes - If you are a smoker - If there is a family history of heart disease / heart attack. - If you are overweight. European Measurement Guidelines:
