Some information we hope you will find useful |
Whilst mostly referred to as TeNS Electrodes this type of Electrode is suitable for all types of Electrotherapy including TeNS Machines (of course), EMS Muscle Stimulation, Interferential and MicroCurrent.
Almost all manufacturers of Electrotherapy devices keep within a voluntary international standard so that any normal TeNS Electrode will fit their device. Some, however, for reasons I can only try to guess at, use fittings designed exclusively for them. Their customers therefore do not have the choice of supplier and they're excluded from the potential benefits of the different types of electrode normally available.
Standard Lead Wires terminate in a male pin about the size of a match stick, approximately 2mm in diameter. Standard TeNS Electrodes have a short tail wire with a female connector of the same size.
There's a wide variety of different adhesive gels used within the industry. If you have sensitive skin and you experience a reaction to the electrodes you're currently using you may benefit from trying Hypoallergenic Electrodes. The original Hypoallergenic Gel, and still the best by far, is made in the USA by Tyco. It's called Blue Valley Gel.
Most types of TeNS Electrode are available in a variety of sizes. 50 x 50 mm (2 x 2 inches) is the standard used for almost all electrotherapy devices.
When using a TeNS Machine for Childbirth its essential that you use a larger electrode. The normal "Obstetric" size is 50 x 100 mm (2 x 4 inches). We at TeNS Medical offer an optional alternative "Super Size" Obstetric Electrode measuring 50 x 150 mm (2 x 6 inches).
When using a TeNS Unit or other electrotherapy device on your face its normally more convenient to use a small electrode. We supply Face Electrodes just 30 mm in diameter.
Treating Your Feet.
Using a TeNS to treat your feet can be quite awkward. Try this:
Submerge your foot in a deep bowl of comfortably warm water. Attach one electrode towards the bottom of your leg but well above water level.
Immerse the 2nd lead wire without an electrode attached in the bowl of water. Do not let it touch your foot.
Now use your TeNS Machine as normal. The bowl of water acts as an enormous electrode so the whole of your foot is treated at one time. Because this electrode is very large the sensation you feel will be at a very low level. The TeNS Electrode on your leg will tingle away as normal. This is so effective one manufacturer designed a fabric based electrode in the shape of a sock!
When using a TeNS to treat your hand try this method:
Use one pair of electrodes placing one on the top of your WRIST and one underneath. Use your TeNS Machine in the normal way. Increase the intensity until the tingling sensation goes into ALL of your fingers. Gradually increase intensity until it reaches ALL of your finger tips. This method works extremely well.
Looking After Your Electrodes
All self adhesive electrodes hate oils and grease. To extend their life just make sure your skin is free from oils and greases. Please remember that many shower gels, bath oils and cosmetic soaps are actually designed to leave a thin film of oil on your skin.
Never remove your Electrode by pulling on its tail wire.
Always replace your Electrode on its backing paper when not in use.
Store in a cool place (the refrigerator is good idea).
Sometimes you can revitalise your electrodes by rubbing a tiny drop of water into the gel then leaving for a few minutes for the gel to regenerate. Take care as too much water will spoil the electrode beyond repair.
Please Remember
Your TeNS Machine, EMS or whatever cannot work properly unless your electrodes are in good condition. The more sophisticated these devices become the more important it is to keep your electrodes in really good condition. You need to change them regularly! |
